The Rescue Alternatives
Liberia (RAL) then Prisoners Assistance
Program (PAP) is a national human rights
and anti-torture advocacy, pro-democracy
and rehabilitation NGO in Liberia. RAL is
dedicated to providing alternatives to protecting
human rights, promoting and defending democracy
and rescuing victims of torture, among others.
Since the establishment
of PAP now RAL, it has succeeded in advocating
the improvement in the country’s prison
system, released hundreds of prolonged detainees
from further detention and saving lives
through its victims rehabilitation program.
RAL also advocated for the ratification
of several international human rights conventions
by the government of Liberia including the
UN Convention against Torture (UNCAT) and
its Optional protocol (OPCAT) , International
Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR)
, First Optional Protocol to ICCPR , the
International Covenant on Economic, Social
and Cultural Rights (ICESCR) , First Optional
Protocol to ICESCR, and Rome Statue to the
ICC
